yeah... :-)
Went to work. It was busy. Had lunch with Mike and Shaun which was good, we just talked fire fighting. Went back to work and had another hard time of it. Bad day. Got home. Fed pets. Set up laundry. Leapt out of my skin when the pager went. Saw it was G&S Fire just 1 mins drive from my place. Did quick calculation to see if I would have time to go fight it and still be able to pick Al up. Went yeah what the hell. Leapt in the car, dashed over. Saw the flames licking up the trees from the clumped native grass. Threw gear on and ran up just as the Pump showed up. Leapt for the branch Grassy held out for me, dashed over to the flames, yelled at idiot parents to get their idiot children AWAY and proceeded to drench the area. Knocked the flames down pretty fast, worked far up-wind but still came away reeking of smoke. Kinda gummy-smelling from the gum tree :-) Saturated the grass clumps with hard jets to get into the very thick middle. Chatted with Grassy a sec, cleaned up a bit, then said bye bye to the others and headed home. Had shower where smell of gum tree smoke in the nice cool water made my eyes water up. Took the garbage out. Fetched Al from the station.
All in the day of your average vol fire fighter chick. :-)

Your piece on the Lysterfield fires was really interesting, wonder if you're going to end up at the Bunyip State Park one? Keeping a nice, close eye on that for a change in the wind.

Nah I won'rt be going Bunyip unless it's still going by Saturday next week; I don't go on strike-team when I'm on shift at work. Haven't ever been on a Stroke Team yet, hopefully next year. Tomorrow it's going to be stinking hot with high winds but I'll be at work, slwoly chewing my arm off while my pager goes mental. Ah well; pay cheque comes first.
