Macro, fish, and all that sort of stuff

We are in full winter mode here. VERY cold. Nowhere near enough rain tho. In fact, it's quiet concerning. We need a couple very decent downfalls to be safe for the summer. Cold enough tho. I've picked up my 2nd usual winter cold. This one seems to be primarily coughing. Such joy. I am so sick of catching everything that goes around. It comes from being around people. If i didn't have to be around filthy humanity, I'd be fine :P
Foot is still very unhappy in that one spot so walking around hurts like hell. Driving me nuts!!!!
3 months til America and Canada :)
Went into the Dandenongs yesterday with Craig. The market was on in Emerald so we had Polish pancakes and Golzames :D Then we went to the National Rhodedendoron Gardens. I couldn't walk much at all but had a little fun with macro.
Plan for today is read, read some more, read, oh and then read :) I might even throw in a bit of reading.

Floyd. Every night. We have war games on the bed. I have developed reflexes like you wouldn't believe.

Last full day in Thailand

I can't believe my holiday is coming to an end. It seems like the last couple days have just flown by. I wish I could stay longer! Not so much in BKK, but go North again. I think everyone is getting a bit down now. It was Marion yesterday, today it was Craig who wanted to be alone. We first went to the Embassy and voted. Was sort of interesting. Never been in one of those before. It was all very calm and relaxed. I enjoyed not having the gauntlet to run, just one Greens bloke, and he was very easy on the eye so that was okay ;D
After that Craig took off to be by himself while Marion and I headed off to the centre of MADNESS: Chatuchak Market. Aprox 34 acres of INSANITY. The market is massive, and claustrophobic, and smelly, and just INSANE! Marion and I split up and went our sep ways as we have different interests. We'd org'ed to meet back at 2:30pm at the entry closest to Mo Chit Station. Oh guys, it was just NUTS. I haven't sweated like that since clambering around the ruins the other day. Primarily it was clothes they sell there. With enough other tinkery stuff to make it interesting. There is also a pet section which I did NOT take any photos in because it would upset some people on here. NO ABUSE, just not our standards for pet selling. I didn't like the way they sold baby squirrels and hedgehogs (but that's prob because I see these animals as purely wild, not pets), nor how the puppies were out in the open, and the bunnies in small individual cages. BUT! They were all VERY healthy looking, happy, had plentiful water and food, fans were blowing on them and most were playing or otherwise just napping. I hated the stupid clothes on the puppies and bunnies tho. Farkin' stupid practice. There was also a BKK Cat Rescue stand with about 30 kittens of various ages available for adoption, and about 5 adult cats. The ladies there saw me going gah-gah at the kittens so after letting me wash my hands with antiseptic gel, I was allowed to cuddle a couple. Beautiful :) I donated. I guess they don't often get what I donated because I got a wide eyed look, a huge smile and a very low Wai. :) I dunno about you guys, but it makes me feel good to do something good for someone else :)
I FOUND A BANANA ROTI GUY!!!!! We've all become addicts to this simple and most glorious of deserts. It's a roti, with a banana cooked into the middle with condensed milk, then with chocolate poured over the top. Holy HELL it's so damn good. So bad for you, but so so good.:)
Right near Roti-Guy was a band of Kim players so I got to eat while listening to some truly awesome traditional Thai music. I sat back and listened/watched, ate my Thai lunch, watching the insanity of the market. Was a truly omg-i'm-not-home moment :D It took me 45mins to find the correct entry. I sat for a while as knee and ankle were ON FIRE. Watching the crowd again. Marion came along, we ate Logan's that the kind fruit ladies gave us when we got some Pomelo, then we rode home.
I have made friends with a sub-Soi kitten I've named Soi Boy. He saw me coming and meowed his rusty little Siamese type meow, I gave him a cuddle (he could do with a wash!!!!) before coming upstairs and almost collapsing in the shower: it felt just THAT good to have cool clean water on me :D Have been pretty much just slacking off the past couple hours. Loving it :)
I do love Thailand and I will miss the North especially, but I am keen to get home to all I hold near and dear. I have missed Alex fiercely, and I ache for my animals. Work... not so much :D
Pics and vids under the cut.Nothing distressing :)

Chiang Mai

After that epic train ride I think we all just wanted a quiet day, so that's what we had. Also, C and I got upset tummies yesterday morning so neither or us were in a mood to go explore terribly much. We walked up the street just out of our Soi to the pharmacy tio get supplies like Deet etc when my stomach cramped up violently. Dashed across traffic (ped crossings and obeying traffic lights seem to be optional extras in Thailand!) to the McD's and spoke to god for a bit. Felt FABULOUS after that :D M's legs started to swell up a bit tho so after C and I had checked out a little of the old wall that used to surround the city, we headed back. Stopped at a book shop and I got a copy of 'The Life of Pi' since EVERYONE is telling me to read it. Also did a little shopping, go some presents for a few ppl back at home and also got M her 'tacky-gift' gift. We're doing a thing here where we get each other something terribly tacky to take back :D I drew Marion, Craig got me, Marion got Craig. This should be exciting :D Spent a rather lovely afternoon just hanging out, chilling out. M got a txt saying she'd won an interview she was desperately wanting so we all cheered and went a little HAPPY for her :) She has to go to it the day we get back!!!! Thankfully we're back early morning and this will be at 6pm. I'm keeping EVERYTHING crossed for her.
I really like Chiang Mai so far. It's far more relaxed than BKK and more ppl smile at you. It's also cleaner and not anywhere near as hectic. Less food stalls but then again we HAVE found the most important thing you poss can in Thailand; THE BANANA GUY! They cook roti right there for you on like an inverted hot plate. Then they spread raw egg over the top, slice up a banana over that, then pour condensed milk over the whole thing. Then they flip another roti over THAT and cook it for about 1 min. HOLY SENSORY OVERLOAD, BATMAN! You have NEVER tasted anything like it! The bananas here are super sweet and just PERFECT! We loooove it. I think we're pigging out on it again tonight :D
Anyway, some photo's of the local area under the cut and, if I have time, some random shots from Craig :)

Craig trying to get a fix on us with his Tracker. We're down a soi off a soi. It's like a rabbit warren! If you didn't know where this place was, you'd NEVER find it :) We LOVE it. (Soi - like a laneway that runs off a main street. Some are quite big, others you would prob not be able to get the average family sedan down).

Kody and Lily = LOVE!!!

here we have a clear example of why cats and dogs can never get along. See the natural aggression? Clealry Kody wishes great harm to Lily, who is utterly terrorfied out of her wits and trying desperatly to escape. Woe, the life my poor abused animals lead. :D

Pierogi are almost done. Hopefully they taste good! Zippers coming to pick me up soonishly, they are my guinea pigs. :)

Sadness, project 365 and a work WTF

First the saddness. Pauly, the little stray we rescued from the yard the other night, didn't make it. Tanya and Shar took him to the VAAT vet who pumped him full of fluids etc, but then his eye which was already damaged started to swell. The vet made the diagnosis that Pauly must have recieved a head injury and it was causing severe damage to his brain etc. There was no chance. If I'd left him in the yard he'd've died in a lot of pain. As it was, he got to have at least 24 hours of being loved. He was warm, fed, clean, cuddled. Tanya and Shar's cat's adored him, esp Pocket Rocket. He tamed himself. Pauly would have been a wonderful pet cat for someone, more than likely either T&S, or me. I think he was something a little special. I guess we'll never know how he got the head injury. I don't think any of the guys in my yard or the surrounding would have hurt him, he was too happy to be around humans to have ever been hurt by them. Poor little baby. I know he was just one tiny, stray, moggy kitten in a world that is full of heart break and woe and tragedies such as the Haitu earthquake, but I go by the words I once read long, long ago in a bus stop of all places: It is better to do one small good thing on any given day than to say I will do 100 good things tomorrow. Good bye, little Pauly. I only knew you for a couple of hours, but I won't ever forget you. You made me feel that even one small act of goodness is worth it, even if it's only a brief, dim flash in a world that is filled with darkness. Be free and happy over the Rainbow Bridge, little guy, hopefully Sonya will be there to greet you.
Damn it, crying now.
TO CHEER MYSELF UP! Here's todays 365. I'm rather proud of it. Who doesn't love a cute wee bunny?

bigger, plus one )

There was quite some fuckery at work last night too. Under the cut for anyone who wants a raised eye brow moment.

if you are going to prank call work, don't use your own mobile number... )

Oh and this is for Tanya and all those ferrety fans out there :-D

MAGGIES KITTEH RESCUUUUUUUUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

OMG! Paul and I just caught a tiny little feral kitten out in the yard. I have no idea re gender. She;s so tiny, and so scared, and I think anemic. She bit Paul and she bit me but she doesn't have much energy. We quickly popped her into a cardboard box and she;s up here with me where it's warm. I'm sure she's terrorfied but Tanya and Shar are on the way; she couldn't be going some where better. Hopefully more news as it happens/as I hear from them. Poor little baby girl, I wish I could pat her and make her feel safe.
I F'ING HATE PEOPLE WHO DUMP THEIR CATS AND/OR DON'T DESEX!!!!!

UPDATE: Pauly is on his way to his temp foster home with Tanya and Shar. Will probably go on to vet or Lort Smith once he's had some TLC. Hopefully some photos soon. Thank god for friends like these. I can't believe how distressed I got about him. I wish I could keep him, but 3 cats? No way, no without a much bigger house and a LOT more time to devote to them all. It's going to be tough enough with the fuzzies to tame up and care for now.

THEY'RE HOME!!!!

GOT THEM! Have to be quick due to stupid time restrictions at work, but let's just say I AM HAPPY! They are most adorable little devils :-D Lilly is a total hellion; she made a break for freedom at the cattery. Murray is all personality. When the vet tech handed him to me the first thing he did was put both his paws on my cheeks and look up at me, eyes all squinty shut and his looooooooong long ears out to the side like a goof. They met the dogs and are curious but not worried. Kody os dep to play, Pokie is like um ok, small fuzzy cute things, I like but don't want to chase. More meeting scheduled for later. They went CRAZY when I let them loose in their room. For 4 hours they romped, played and went metal. Got a quick vid of Lilly, showing her huntress side with the kitty wand. Turn the sound up for scary kitty sounds! :-D
