Mum called last night a bit distraught. She and dad went walking at the local park where we have gone pretty much every day siince I was about 8 years old. The farm is on the other side of the Dandenong Creek, as a result you get geese, ducks, all sorts of cool critters. It's a huge park and very popular. Anyway, they went yesterday arvo a bit later than normal due to the heat to feed 'their' geese. Police turned them back as they neared the creek, said it was a crime scene and that a young boy had drowned. Very sad. That creek has claimed a few lives in it's time. It's very deceptive re depth, it drops very suddenly, there are loads of roots and weeds, and there are slippery stones. Storm water empties into it. When I was young and didn't know better I'd swim in it too and it was important to very much be careful. I checked the two major newspapers in Melbourne today and found the following:
