My journal is a safe place.
I don't want any of you to ever feel you need to censor yourselves here, alright?
I am pro-choice. I am pro-gay marriage. I am pro-equity (EQUITY, that is exactly what I mean).
I am anti-gun, anti-hunting, anti-bullshit hatred of people based on skin colour, race, religion, or whatever, but I am very pro arse-kicking of people who are pro-hatred and violence towards anyone based on any of these things.
I am also a nature nerd. I will listen to any and all animal/plant/geology/whatever all day if you let me.
I will listen to you chat about your passions, be they animal or not, and I will pay attention, and learn from you, and adore the fact you love your topic so much even if it's something I've never heard about or previously had any interest in. From you guys I have learned about different types of music, mules, hiking, dog agility, dancing, animation... I've even picked up a little smattering of German!
I just wanted to let you all know that even tho I suck balls at comments and sometimes it takes me a little time to reply to ones you leave, I read every entry, and I hope like hell that you all feel you can let it all hang out here.

I really wanted to go shoot somewhere today, but with my mobility severely effected and it not being safe at all for me to walk on uneven surfaces (the moonboot does not flex, any stones or uneven surface I step on effects me very much just right now), I am pretty much stuck at home. I was kind of bummed. Wished I still had my Zoo membership, I really wanted to go shoot at the bug/butterfly/frog houses. But a one off is $36 pus citylink tolls, fuel etc. Was sitting here all shirty when I realised I have been a bit of a hypocrite with macro. I'm always going on about how I love macro because it brings the overlooked common everyday forward, that it's not about exotic and rare, it's about what's around us. Yet a lot of my shots are from other places. So I took up my trusty Canon and headed outside (mostly),just into my backyard. I got some good stuff :) Well. I like it anyway.

There will be more soon.

Why?
Why would your police force shoot an unarmed woman who called for help?
Why were the body cams turned off?
Why was the dash cam turned off?
Why would you pull a gun and shoot across your partner who was TALKING to the woman?
Why are you a police officer if the sound of fireworks scares you so much you feel the need to draw your weapon?
Why was he operational with 2 open cases of misconduct towards women against him?
Why have you shot dead, not just shot, but shot DEAD over 540 people this year alone?
Why is this POS arsehole allowed to refuse to speak to investigators?
Why hasn't he been arrested for homicide?
Why is he free?
Why is he still being paid while refusing to co-operate?
Why did you have two inexperienced cops working together?
Why are there only two departments in the whole of the US who have engaged their officers in de-escalation programs?
Why do your cops draw their guns first, not their tasers?

Why is she dead?

We are in full winter mode here. VERY cold. Nowhere near enough rain tho. In fact, it's quiet concerning. We need a couple very decent downfalls to be safe for the summer. Cold enough tho. I've picked up my 2nd usual winter cold. This one seems to be primarily coughing. Such joy. I am so sick of catching everything that goes around. It comes from being around people. If i didn't have to be around filthy humanity, I'd be fine :P
Foot is still very unhappy in that one spot so walking around hurts like hell. Driving me nuts!!!!
3 months til America and Canada :)
Went into the Dandenongs yesterday with Craig. The market was on in Emerald so we had Polish pancakes and Golzames :D Then we went to the National Rhodedendoron Gardens. I couldn't walk much at all but had a little fun with macro.
Plan for today is read, read some more, read, oh and then read :) I might even throw in a bit of reading.

Floyd. Every night. We have war games on the bed. I have developed reflexes like you wouldn't believe.

I had the best day yesterday. My first RDO. Doesn't get too much better than this, tbh. Nothing fancy. Nothing material gained. Just a lot of plain good ol' happy, old school style.

It started like this

I am at work, and have discovered they allow Dreamwidth :) YAY! Weekend shifts are (generally!) quiet shifts, so this is a bit of a bonus! I think I've mentioned prior that I actually work at two different sites, a week day one in a suburb called Burwood which is very leafy and old, fairly close to the city. And on weekends I work in Heatherton. Less leafy, more industrial but still ok. I actually prefer this office purely because I'm not sitting in what feels like a concrete bunker with no natural light. This office is open plan (usually something I loathe with a passion but ok in here), loads of natural light. Only here on weekends so it's much, much quieter. On the other side of the glass wall to where we sit is my old team. I don't get to see them anymore other than the weekend workers (1 per day), and soon they will all be gone as the contract is over. I picked a very good time to leave. I'm very sad for them, they were the best team I have ever worked with in my life.
Anyway, I go on walks at lunch time. VERY important to move on 12 hour shifts. I haven't been birding in a while, and never anticipated I would strike a LIFER on a work walk! I was walking down a main road towards the Gardiner Creek track when I heard Galahs in the trees. I glanced up, and out on the electricity wires was what I thought was a very odd looking Galah. Galahs are a rather sweet pinky and dusky grey. This one was very, very dark. Almost black. I paused and whipped out the phone to grab a snap (my phone camera is my naturalists sketch book, seriously!). I jay-walked across to get better look and managed a VERY quick look before she flew off with the Galahs. I managed a couple crappy shots and a quick vid.
Analysed them as I kept walk (I'm going to kill myself doing that one day, I swear!). Looked sort of like a Galah but...not quite right. The crest especially was totally wrong. Galahs have a very over-gelled looking crest, this one was more...floofy and curly. I dared to hope. I msg'ed one of my friends and asked what did she think it was. Alison knows EVERYTHING about birds. She's a wild bird rehab expert :)
FEMALE GANG GANG COCKATOO!!!!!!!
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
L I F E R !
It's very disconcerting she's in the suburbs, although there have been reports of it happening when there is not much food where they usually live. That's usually in heavily wooded forest areas. They are actually not at all easy to find. So this, my friends, was INCREDIBLY lucky!!!! I am one very, very happy little nature nerd who is going to cherish and share these crappy from-a-distance mobile phone shots with you all :D
It's certainly been quite the few days for birds. Yesterday just walking in the little private park we have at work here I got a close up meeting with a Currawong (very much a fav bird) and a Grey Butcherbird! Not uncommon but I haven't seen one in months and months. It's been seriously good :)
RDO's start tomorrow and I am HANGING OUT!
I need to recover after the severe emotional trauma that is the latest Hobb novel. I finished the last few pages this morning before work (woke up 15mins early specifically to do that). Bawled all the way to work in the car. I am broken. DAMN YOU, HOBB! DAMN YOU!

The most craptastic LIFER shot I have ever taken, and I am SO HAPPY I did :)

birds and very special koi )

8 hours to go *sigh*
Luckily I have a book on apiary to read. No, not getting a hive, just interested in them. Because the natural world, every single damn facet of it, is INCREDIBLE. Only one chapter in and I have learned so much new stuff. Bees rock. They also sting, but they're cool :)

Maybe I'll get a hive.

so you guys know those photos of me being cuddled by the big bay horse, Maverick? Well his owner is Eve, and she has been in and out of hospital for the whole time I have been there. She has always asked me to check over her horses and give them a little love when she is in as she misses them etc. Hence the photos;I take them for her to see the horses are well etc.
Well no fucking more.
I got a msg on Saturday evening. Eve saying her horses don't come to her any more and that they are restless and weird in the top yard and she feels like they have lost their bond to her. Um ok. Well, that's probably because a. they don't see her for weeks and weeks at a time and b. they are not handled much so they've gotten pushy and she's too nervous with her back injury to snap them back into their place and c. she has a VERY inexperienced guy looking after them for her who lets them roam halter free into the yard for feeding and then just lets them go again.
But nope, the EQUINE COMMUNICATOR she consulted with told her they are confused and don't know who their person is anymore. She EQ says they are "unbalanced by the various energies around them" and that their "hearts are in free-fall".
Uhh....o-kaaaaaay. Personally I think "animal communicators" are a bunch of rip off merchants who are simply skilled at reading what PEOPLE want to hear and tell them so, while reading the animals body language to work out pain or fear triggers. Absolute charlatans so the woo-woo crowd go all gushy woo-woo over single origin vegan humanely-harvested Himalayan soy lattes with their hipster fuckwit friends, but ok whatever floats your boat.
So she's said can you please stop petting the horses and giving them attention BUT I still want you to check them over and take photos for me.
What.
The.
Actual.
FUCK.
One, how the hell am I supposed to safely check over two over-rugged(URGH! DO NOT GET ME STARTED ON THE FUCKING RUGS!!!!!!!!!!!)horses without touching the horses, talking to the horses, or interacting with the horses? And two, who are you to tell me you want photos as often as possible. I am not like Gav, her little fuck-slave who is currently caring for the horses, to be yelled at, directed, nor TOLD to take photos. Further, I was checking her horses out of friendship.
Forget it. I go down now to care for Desi and fuck the rest of them.
EVERY SINGLE FUCKING HORSE PERSON IN FUCKING MELBOURNE IS FUCKING INSANE! Every single one I have met. Start off semi-normal, swiftly descend into lunatics.
She posts shit on FB about omg rainbow fluffy horsey-puffs soul bonded to an unshatterable level with us rough tough super awesome wowzer horse women with fucking fairy wings and spurs while dealing with the amazing mental health issues we have, but doesn't spend any freakin' time with her horses, and wonders why this OOOOOOO MAGICKAL BOND is not there.
Fuck me...

So my old High School class put together a page on Facebook a little while ago. I joined, no biggie, although school was sheer hell for me from grade 4 through to year 10 when I completely lost my shit and beat someone up into a bloody pulp. I've never really looked back since I left, I have no good memories of that place. Then they proposed a reunion. I was fish-eyed about it, and very hesitant. Then it was posted yesterday no partners, and $50 to attend, so that made up my mind.
And then, my friends, The Great Shitstorm of 2015 began.
St John's Regional College Class of 1995 displayed all their fine upbringing and the true College Spirit which bound us all together.
One of the girls that gave me hell on earth at school had an accident a few years ago. She was getting out of her car, slipped, fell hitting her head into the pavement(yes, life is indeed a horrible mother fucker). She has had fits and seizures ever since and is bound in a wheelchair. She was told straight out that of course her partner is welcome (she needs a lot of assistance) and no cost to either of them.
They booked the venue and then realised holy shit, the room is upstairs (downstairs is all public area) and no lifts so no wheelchair access. When this was pointed out to them they went OHHH FAAAAARK sorry we'll change the venue. Pretty logical and decent response. BUT the chick involved HAS LOST HER MIND.
Utterly and totally started flipping out. A couple others have joined in on the Great Crusade and it's all gone to hell. Not only are the organisers apparently rude, obnoxious, uncaring, she-bitches, but they did it on purpose, have some sort of anti-disability agenda and ARE THE CHILDREN OF THE DEVIL.
The page is now filled with HATRED and ANGER and jesus holy smoking christ AAAAAAAAAANGST.
It's like being back in school.
One of the hysteria ridden chicks has decided to threaten one of the girls with a report to Board of Education for this because she's a teacher. Um. Whut?
Seriously the way they've behaved and gone off the deep end has pretty much sealed my decision to not go, and reaffirmed my belief that I indeed went to school with a bunch of hysterical bogan lunatic twats.

I will have animal photos for you all tomorrow. Including from a little rescue mission ;)

Nothing exciting, folks, except that I have decided to re-read the series. I have seen about 5 episodes of the series but not really interested at this stage; the books walk all over the series ( and that's saying something since I actually quite liked the series). I haven't read the books for about 3 years or something like that, and OMG I am so falling in love all over again. Epic, it is, sheer epic.

I really need to post the High Country stuff! Sorry, guys! It's been seriously just mental. Here, have some honest to god deadly serious these are real brumbies.

The grey is the stallion, his name is Max and he's a Waler. More soon, I promise.

What if i had gone down to the paddock and seen something was wrong, called a vet, would he be alive now? Is it my fault? Did I fail him?
Every day it burns.
I miss my autumn horse so much.
Every single day.

Today I got to meet Robin Hobb aka one of my favourite authors EVER. No seriously, ever. She and Jodi Picoult are IT for me; nothing comes close to their standards. And I have now met them both. Life is very, very good. Of course she didn't have a lot of time for everyone there, and she looked a bit tired which is not unreasonable considering she's been travelling a lot. But she was lovely and we got to have a quick chat. I wish I'd had more time, or the money to actually go to her Q&A session tonight, one thing I REALLY want to ask her is about the wolf cob she's mentioned she raised when she lived in Alaska. Ah well. Maybe one day...
