Down at Casey Fields where I walk the dogs, they have created a massive and very awesome new playground. I mentioned it to Diana and today she came over with Izi so kidlet could wear herself out thoroughly :) Izi took one look at it all and bolted for it. The swing was her absolute favourite. And her mad Aunty Maggie going to tickle her each time she swung forward got a lot of giggles and smiles :) Love that kid :)

Izi ended up is hospital last night. She has had a very bad cold and yet Diana insisted on taking her to child care. Says it builds up her immunity. Um no, letting her body have a rest from constant exposure to pathogens so she can face the next lot with a strong and viable immune system will help build up her immunity. I don't have kids and even I know that! GAH! Anyway, poor baby started having issues breathing. So she took her to the dr who advised her to take her straight to hospital. There they put her on a ventilator to help her breathe. She is so stuffed full of pathogens they can't even tell what's wrong with her 100%. Either she has whooping cough which is going around at the moment, or she has the start of asthma which is possible as I believe Diana suffered it in her youth (no one in my family has, we get bred quite strong, us nature nerd families). I don't know WHY but it seems like almost every Australian kid gets asthma. Is it the pollen from the trees? Is it genetic? Something else in the atmosphere? When I was at school I think I was the only white kid all through high school who never once had even a vague need for an inhaler. *shrug* I haz TIGHT genetics :P or more likely, very good luck. Anyway, Izi is home and is not permitted back to childcare for at least a week, esp if it's whooping cough which, from what I understand, is extremely catching and can be very, very serious. Also they said it could be croup, I have no idea about that but I assume it's also infectious? Either way she needs time to recover. D's mum has her on Monday but my parents are going over there to take care of her as D's mum also has a cold and is run-down. Tuesday the same, I think, and Wednesday it looks like possibly I 'll be baby sitting her. Still waiting to hear back re that. Prob will go over to their house to do that. Much easier; everything I need will be there. I can just take a book to amuse myself while she sleeps etc.
In other news, my geriatric gelding is a PITA :D A very, very naughty cheeky little PITA, aparently. He's always had his games, esp when it comes to being caught,. We have each other worked out. He knows how far he can push me. But he clearly has decided Melissa is next in line for some testing, the little shit. He was an ass to catch last time she went to get him until I went down there and gave him the fish eye, then he stood there all sweetness and light, butter wouldn't melt in his mouth. Apparently on Saturday when I was at work and M was getting the horses ready for John the Magic Farrier, he was a BASTARD! REFUSED point blank to be caught. So he ended up not gettng trimmed or measured up for his Cavallo's. I can just imagine what his behaviour wasl ike. I thought when they get old they are meant to SETTLE DOWN and behave :D I know it would have been annoying as hell for M but I couldn't help but get the giggles when I got the sms. SUCH a bad, bad boy. Good to know he's feeling good enough to be a little shit ;) Next time, I'll corral him in with Mocha and Soli to make him a bit easier to catch, and I'll leave his halter on.
Kind of makes me feel all special that he comes walking up to me, nickering his deep old man nicker, these days. Actually both horses have been very affectionate lately. Desi has been doing her usual 'omg I'm so happy to see you!' nicker which I ADORE too. Awwwwww, my ponies LOVE me!!! :D

I can't believe how quickly my niece is growing. She stands up by herself now, although she uses things to pull herself up and keeps a hold onto stuff. She can stand alone but only when she doesn't realise she's doing it. As soon as she realises she is on her own, she plops down :P She has also taken her first steps but again without realising it. She prefers to crawl. Ah well, she'll get there in her own time. We'll prob look back fondly at this time in a few months and wish we were back in the can't-run stage :D She's HYPER cute and very giggly and sweet, Sarah - even you'd like her I think :D. I really hope she keeps that. She ADORES my mum and dad, and loves me :) Have discovered trying to get babies to pose is pretty much impossible. But I gave it a good go. Got some pretty ones, I reckon. Also got a couple pretty ones at my parents garden and also at a garden we passed when we took Izi for a walk. Please bear in mind portraiture is def not something I have studied and have VERY little experiance with, so be kind with any critiques but at the same time tell me how I can improve :)

Going to have a very quiet one at home today, I think. Been longing for a day just spent reading and cuddling the dogs and cats. Plus it's a perfect laundry day so i may as well get as much done there as possible before the rain hits later this arvo. God my life is SO exciting :D I WAS going to read the 1st of the Fool's trilogy by RH but nooooooo, suddenly EVERYONE wants to read it and it's lent out at every single library within a 30k radius! WTF?!?! It's been out for yeeeeeeeears and now because I want to read it, everyone else wants to as well :P I could just go and buy it since I'm collecting them anyway, but I realy shouldn't with the mothers day lunch to pay for. WHY are books so damn exxy these days? I still remember when you could get a thick paperback like that for $14. Surely the author isn't getting a bigger cut. WHY are they making them harder to get? They WANT us to dumb-down? I could get it 2nd hand but I want the funky new covers so I'll just have to suck it up, princess. I'll get it after pay day. Good thing Koontz has come up with the goods and released a decent new one I borrowed, called 'Breathless'. Not as good as his old stuff but MUCH better than the stuff he's been releasing lately. I farking HATE the 'Odd' books. I also happen to have stumbled across these two books by a certain Megan Lindholm which look pretty darned good... :D Oh and look, Hampton Park library has Wizard of the Pidgeons, which I have only wanted to read for oh, the past however many years. Guess I'd better go for a drive :D

Man oh man have I caught a great little miniature head-cold. I think someone at work must have been ill because I was feeling 100% at the start of the shift, when it hit me at about 11pm. My eyes started running, my nose joined in, then my throat decided to get in on the act by acting like I'd swallowed some swords. Now I feel all stuffy and blergh. With 3 nights to go. Goody! Lucky no sore joints which with me means I am getting a SERIOUS cold. Just enough to be ouchy and annoying :-D
Anyway, I couldn't sleep any more so I decided to have a little play with a cute shot I took of Izi the other day. I'm a tiny bit high on cold meds at the moment so I can't work out how to get the lighting quite right, but I think it's cute :-)

To be held in trust until she is old enough to be trusted with it :-)

I'm far from being the religious type, but I think it's apt. What do you guys think, pretty?
