Primarily for my American friends. We're getting footage here of the fires in CA. Just like we got footage of the flood in New Orleans. Now, I'm sort of noticing something. In NO, it seems like there was a lot more panic, a lot more people left starnded, and the evac centres looked like absolute chaos. I'm not seeing this with CA. I'm seeing relative calm, Bush and Arnie walking around the effected areas, and today I saw massage therapists working in the evac centres and clowns walking around to keep the kiddies happy..... Er, am I missing something here? It sort of looked like a 3rd world thing in New Orleans, CA looks a hell of a lot calmer. They're talking already about rebuilding and low interest funds to help, but then I am seeing people in New Orleans still living in caravans and what appears to be nothing being done.....

New Orleans was stricken with poverty to begin with, which means the flood took literally everything that most of them had. Talk about pushing someone to a breaking point...this caused looting, panic, and a lot of suicides.

Though the fires in Southern CA will ruin many peoples lives, there are a considerable amount of people who have insurance on their homes and things, so they will be able to have a home again, etc. Obviously I am not attempting to discount their pain, at ALL, but many people in New Orleans will never live above the poverty line, let alone have a house.

As for nothing being done....I honestly don't think Bush cares enough and I don't think there are enough political people calling him out on it because they don't either.
