I LOVE elephants. I love them so much I do NOT EVER go to circuses.

Our circuses don't have them anymore. In fact they don't have ANY animals any more. Not even dogs. Which makes them super dull. When I was little and didn't understand I used to adore watching the animals, now I prefer to see them in places like the zoo and in the wild, acting naturally. I still think the horses I saw at the Russian Circus all those years ago were the most wonderful thing in the world!!!!

I think animal shows with domesticated animals like agility dogs and properly cared for horses (the Lipizzan shows for instance) are fine. I hate seeing wild animals live in cages and be chained up. I like zoos where the animals are allowed to live in their natural habitat so if you don't see the animal because it's hiding then so be it. I will also only go to zoos where a part of my admission goes towards conservation and protection of endangered species.

Oh my you would so love Melbourne Zoo then, and it's sister zoo Healesville and Werribee. Melbourne zoo is one of the world's foremost leaders in enclosure design and breeding of endangered animals, the kind that simply will NOT breed unless they are 100% happy and comfortable. The enclosures are soooooo beautiful so the humans enjoy them too. In fact esp the wildcat ones can be a PITA, as can the otters, badgers, some of the bird flights and the reptiles as they are so heavily planted over to simulate the natural environment that it can almost impossible to see the animals!!!! ALL the enclosures are always being worked on for the betterment of the animals lives, it's really good to see. They have keapt one of the old cages to show people what animals used to be exposed to, it's so sad to see it, but so uplifting to see how much work/knowledge has been used since those days.
