It's been one year since Black Saturday

Today's 365 is the iconic image of this time last year. Sam the Koala personified the suffering of us all. This simple act of kindness by a brother touched millions. Sam didn't make it. But the message did. To the 173 human lives lost and the thousands and thousands of animal ones, we will never forget.
We heal. Slowly, but we heal.

thanks, I think today felt more like a celebration than a mouring ceremony. Everything is based towards looking forward, rising above and rebuilding.
I still have brig mates calling me to talk about it. What they saw that day will never be earsed from their memories. I don't think people realise just how deeply ingrained our need to HELP and PROTECT is with emergency service workers. That we KNEW people were dying and we couldn't do a damn thing about it has almost killed some of the ones who were there.
