Bad Biker Maggie
Jan. 31st, 2005 02:33 pmWent to Chris and Mars wedding celebration on Saturday, was nice to see her. Was also interesting to catch up with Bettina. We have known each other since Grade 4. She hasn't changed a bit; still tries to bring you 'into the light' while trying despertaly to try and phantom how anyone could POSSIBLY think/ believe/ want something different to herself. She has a little boy named Ethan now with her husband Stan who I used to play in Band with! LOL! SO now instead of trying to bring me into the 'light of Jesus', she is trying to bring me into the 'light of motherhood, vegetarianism and anti-vaccinations.' Do believe she will be as successful with the latter as she was with teh former. Really gets up my nose how people will not respect my choice to not have kids.
Went for a lovely walk on the beach that night with Al, looking at all the lights out in the bay. Was very nice, must do that more often!
Sunday we washed all 3 horses down big time. Danny was NOT impressed!!!! Dessy took it like a champion and, dare I say it, enjoyed it! Jordan did his usual bug-eyed thing but seemed to behave very well. Also poop-scooped out the paddock which is always a joy. Certainly goes faster when someone sweeps it into nice neat piles for you, and then someone helps you as well!
Today was supposed to be great. Craig and I were chatting in ICQ and he invited me down to do to 5ED and possibly up to Reefton. He knows I have been hanging out BIG time to go for a hoon. So I pop on the leathers and scoot down there. We hop on the gorgious, beautiful, dream-bike Blade and off we go. I was feeling high as a kite from the moment I sat down. I closed my eyes and listended to the sound of the engine with this huge grin on my face. We pull into the petrol station. And this is where it gets bad.
Craig does a u-bolt to line the bike up with the pump. There is a bump in the concrete so the bike goes over it and throws him off balance. The bike is in N so he can't power it up and out. Scrabble, Hop. Scrabble. Shit! WHAM! I'm trying my best to help by leaning the other way but no good. Over we go. I landed on top of him despite my best efforts to try and not to. Poor Craig. My right foot got stuck for a moment in the rack so I had to kick that loose before I could wiggle off poor leather-clad downed biker! He was alright so we hauled the bike upright and proceeded to calmly fill the tank. The people in the car behind us almost had a heart attack. So I gave them the thumbs-up to show them we were alright. They drove up and made sure we were alright before they left. There is indeed some human decency left in the world, they were a little bit of bright sunshine to a cloudy moment.
We limped home after that, Craig had hurt his wrist and we were both a little sore. Damage to the most beautiful bike I have ever seen? Pipe is badly dinited, lots of paint work damage, possible brake lever damage. Will be about $3000. Thank god for insurance. I feel terrible tho. If I hadn't pestered him for a ride, this wouldn't have happened. If I were a better/braver rider, I would have either been able to help more, or be on my own bike so he wouldn't have had to deal with my weight on there as well.
Tell you what though. We got the bike upright pretty darn quick! I could have never gotten the bike up by myself like that!
