So mum and I headed to the city this morning to meet with one the best authors alive today. We had plenty of time so we walked around a bit, I have a couple shots from the city which I'll pop up later on tonights shift. This will be JUST for the blurry photos of me meeting Jodi that mum took. :P I got to the shop a good hour early and was 10th in line or so.  I wasn't going ANYWHERE as loads of people showed up shortly aftewards. Sat with a young lady who had taken the day off from school to be there. :-D Smart young thing, has read allt he books. She was doing some chem homework which I was surprisingly understood, then we chatted about Jodi's books. There was a reviewer from The Age there who was interviewing people and who kept grinning over at us as we were having quite an in-depth discussion happening about The Pact. Then Jodi arrived and we got down to business. It was great! She was more than happy to pose for a few happy snaps with everyone and my gosh she was just so friendly, you know?  We'd given our names beforehand to be marked in our boks on a bit of paper so Jodi would know what to write. Then a lady took our books and we were welcome to come forward. I got blocked by a staffer and had to step around him (almost bit him!), while I was doing this Jodi opened the book and grinned, looking around and said 'Oh gosh, who's Maggie?'.
'That would be me!'
"Well, have you read the book yet?'
'I sure have. Loved it.'
'Well then, you'll know you are a pivital character then!'
We had a laugh about that and then I had happy snaps, then moved on to make room for the next person. I was all SQUEEEE and did a little skip-hop which caused giggles behind me :-D
Got back to Dandenong still all glow-y and happy. Went and visited my poor neglected haven't-been-ridden-in-a-week horses, then came home. To find an email in my inbox inviting me to come to the DINNER WITH JODI tonight!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRGGHHHH!!!! This after I have already cancelled my leave for tonight and am stone broke until pay goes through tomorrow. SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT! PLUS I couldn't take tonight off anyway since that would leave Adam with just two hours to get someone in. And for a night shift that is no easy feat. CRAP CRAP CRAAAAP. How horrifically frustrating. :-( BUT, I did get to meet with Jodi and exchange a laugh, which I think was really quite awesome. And it was ok short but more intimate than a dinner with 400 other people. I'm happy I got what I got. Having the dinner would have been outstanding, but I'll survive.
Now, onto the pics. Sorry most are blurry, mum was holding down the no-flash button and isn't what one would call the world's most experianced photographer. But she did her best and I love them, blurr and all. :-D

Froze my ass off at Warragul ESO day yesterday. Took a million shots, of course. Here are the police ponies:-)

Here they are folks. These are my favourites. There are 48 I took in total. If anyone wants to see the rest, they can be found at:
http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v732/zzrmags/Race%20Horses/?start=all
There were just over 150 images originally, but most were done on rapid exposure so they were all very similar. I've picked the ones I think are nicest. Enjoy :-)

I mentioned a few weeks ago that Desi is not bay-roan like a lot of people call her. She's actually bay-rabicano. Or bay with rabicano. I've done as much research as I could into this pattern, there isn't an awful lot of information out there. For those that don't know, the fact that Desi's tail has the tiger pattern starting all the way at the very base hairs clearly marks her as rabicano. If the top hairs were black/brown/whatever and the white was further down, she'd be roan. There are also other trademarks which make her rabicano. She has faint tiger marks at her withers and down her back, generally you can only see them when she is very clean (ie just washed) and has dried fully in bright sunlight. She also has sort of darker lines in her coat which aren't quite tiger marks, esp near her hips. As she's gotten older the 'roaning' pattern in her coat has gotten more significant, but it started on her belly and flanks and moved sort of up and over her barrel. The birdcatcher marks only started this year. The first one was on her neck and came out in Spring. Yesterdays closer inspection has showed up a few more spots coming through. This could have been greying genes coming out but since neither her dam or sire were grey, it's impossible basically. My research online has showed this to also be a rabicano trademark. It's unlikely her head will 'roan' out, but she may get more spots. So there you go, next time you get told a horse is 'roan' check the tail first, if it looks anything like Desi's in the pics under the cut you can be a smart-ass and tell them no it's actually rabicano, or more accuratly bay/pally/dun/whatever-with-rabicano. It doesn't generally show with the pinto/paint genetic markers. And yes if you breed one rabicano to another, you will get rabicano. But anyone who breeds just for colour is nuts. :-)

For anyone that is interested, under the cut are some shots taken by the very talented Keith Pakenham of Tyabb CFA's gnarly day on Sunday. At 9am a lady drove right through the safetty lights, bells, whisteles and barriers at a level crossing just as a V-Line was going through. For my OS friends, V-line is a train service that rockets through the country side here. It moves VERY fast, carrying both people and trade-goods, tho rarely at the same time. Luckily no one in the train was hurt. Unfortunatly the lady in the vehicle died instantly, as you would imagine. This is the sort of scene FFs hate yet can not help but be fascinated at. It's so rare (THANK GOD!) that to the detached professional side of us, it's an incredible learning op. While this extraction was takling place, an unltra-light air craft in a near by paddock got into trouble and was forced to make an emergency landing. The pilot was totally unharmed and was walking away from his downed craft as CFA and SES arrived. Damage to the craft was minimal. GOOD FLYING! Keith was able to attend both incidents (don't ask me how, he normaly only travels with Dandenong Rescue who were not there) and take some amazing shots. I've put the best ones under the cut. THERE IS NO NASTY STUFF UNDER THE CUT. No blood, guts or othe distressing items are included, no one needs to see that. They are fascinating tho, esp the train ones.

ok-ay, I found this on bad-riding and emailed it to FHOTD... er, she put it up almost instantly.... have a watch of the YouTube link and a read of the comments. Mine's on page 4 I think (in YouTube, I don't often comment on FHOTD). Holy crap, what did I do!!!! LOL! Mind you, the kid should be taken away from this crazy bitch by Child Services asap; people this dumb shouldn't breed, seriously:

Now because my last post was a whine, I've popped some pretty pics NOT BY ME under the cut, just stuffed from emails etc. I want to shoot like this one day. Enjoy.

Well Terri's done her dash with me already.

Al came to visit me at work at the end of his shift... on the back of  one of those new tri-cycles. These have just been approved here in Australia as road bikes. Weirdest looking things you have ever seen. Two wheels at the front, one at the back. The body sort of swings so you still lean around cnrs, and the 250cc version locks when you stop at lights so it stays upright. The 500cc one you lock manually or can leave free. We went for a hoon before work. MY GOD! It's soooo much fun!!!!!!! Very comfy and very quick, and peoplem were STARING at us! Al and I were killing ourselves laughing at the reactions we were getting. Guys were walking backwards into cars, drivers were gaping, passengers were giving themselves whiplash, and bike riders were almost coming off. It was bloody HILARIOUS! Just what I needed; I've been very down lately. I took pics of the scooter, under the cit, enjoy.

Just some random stuff off the net I found. none of the pics are taken/drawn by me, but I like them very much.
It's boiling hot but too green for fire so I;m bored . Met Craig at the Gate for a while but hge had medical app. so that wasn't for long.
Horses have fly viels on, Desi now wants to kill me and Danny is happy wandering around looking looking like Zorro. :-)
Anyway, here are the pics:

Cool! )

I think I look a bit weird in those shots but eh, I don't mind having my photo taken when it's with something I like :-)
Right, bed time.

Spent the morning and the better part of the early afternoon at my parents today. We went to Garden World, very exxy but lovely garden centre. They have THE most gorgious Orchid section!!! I love Orchids, but don't dare get one because I KNOW I will kill it. Better to just enjoy at a distance. Also hung out in their garden for a little bit. When we got home from the shops there was a package from Poland!!!!! We FLEW inside! There were 23 issues of WITCH for me!!!! *jumps around in pure joy!* I know it's a kid's comic, but I realy love it. I love the story line, I really like the characters, I like the art. And I also like the fact that I can get it in Polish which has realy helped me with my reading and grammer. I really don't want to ever loose my ability to speak and read Polish. Anyway, took quite a few shots, they are under the cut. Entry is Public to allow parents to view, just be aware, folks! :-)

My young friend Mikayla wanted to go pony riding. So, we took her to meet the horses. She's a little natural. Love at first site. Couldn't wipe the smile off her face for the rest of the day. Both horses behaved so well, very proud f them both. Under cut is major photo spammage, not dial up friendly. :-)

It has been unseasonable warm the past few days. So horses are naked, Dessy is going that weird silver she does when she molts. Pics under cut to try and explain what I mean. Was so nice today I decided to take the dogs to the beach, met up with the Zips there and had a relatively short walk. Dogs loved it, and yeah pics under the cut as usual :-)

last year I noticed in my paddock the profusion of sweet smelling daffodils and jonquils. Very pretty, but very, very toxic to horses. I asked Adriana if I could dig them out and she said yes. Unfort my hand back then was still giving me a lot of grief and I didn't have the strength in it. This year, my friends, it was on. I went out there yesterday with mumma and hoooo nelly did we go nut. The bulbs have grown in large clumps, amazed half the bulbs managed to actually grow to be honest! It was a lot of hard work but yesterday we managed to do about 1/2 the clumps, both mum and I woking our butts off for a good hour, trying to impale ourselves on the blackberries! I tried to keep the smaller clumps together but the larger ones were increibly heavy and needed to be boken up.  When I got home I went ape and planted out what we'd pulled out, primarily around the fruit trees in the spots where the aga's hadn't taken well. I culled about 80% of the aga's I put in last time as they just weren't settling in well, the ones left are small and manageable.  They are now surrounded by daff's and jonq's, not to mention the snowdrops! Those were a right royal bastard to dog out let me tell you!!!!! They were entwined with blackberries and it took some serious muscle to get them out. I went back today to get the rest, or the ones I could get anyway. The ones that remain are too entwined with the roots of the large blackberry bushes. And quite frankly I didn't really want anymore. I had enough hard work getting these lots in! They look kinda fantastic. You can tell the ones that I have seperated out of the main clumps as they are fallen over; the stems were weak at the bottom for lack of sunshine and they had been leaning on each other for support. Next year they should grow straight, even hope this year they may pick up a bit. The wheelbarrow I found through hard-rubbish, drilled about 5 drainage holes in it with Zippers drill. The dogs enjoyed themselves immensly at the paddock, running around, chasing wild rabbits, setting off the horses. I lost Pokie a couple of times only to spot him bolting back up the hill or from the mares paddock where he'd been after bunnies. He didn't catch any, but sure wore himself out well! Anyway, under the cut are some shots if anyone would like a look. I wish I could convey the way it all smells to you all, it's amazing!

Today I put together the run I have been paying off. Rosie loooooves it. I have dubbed it Rancho Rabbito.

maggies_lens: (Default)
I haven't learnt anything in the past week really. With John on dispatch, I don't know WTF is going on 3/4 of the time. He treats me like his secretary. Doesn't keep me informed at all. I had a chat with Adam about it today, he's aware of what's been happening and says to not worry about it; we'll make up for it next shifts when it's just him and me. That's fine with me, I have learnt Sewer and Smart Cars to the Nth degree. Problem is, it's very very boring sitting there doing SFA most of the time.
Today was not a good day.
Well, work was alright, just boring.
Lunch was good, hot magi noodles while reading Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. left the book on the coffee table like I always do.
Drive home was nice, it was raining but there was a lot of sun as well, had the most incredible double rainbow! So stunning I just HAD to pull over and take a few shots. Just beautiful. So clear! The shots turned out ok, under cut of anyone wants a look.
Got home.  Walked in. Kody tries to bolt past me. That's the sign that he's done something very, very wrong. Grabbed him and hauled him back inside. Walk into living room. MY BOOK IN A MILLION PIECES!!!! BASTARD!!!!!!
He's never TOUCHED my books before!!! I got SOOOOOO mad! Smacked his ass, yelled, kicked him out. He's in the VERY bad books. God damn it, now I have to go and buy the book again. I was planning on going and picking up the 7th one on Saturday sometime after the crowds go AWAY, might pick up book 5 then too, or i'll wait till I get paid.
